Bath time

With both water and privacy being hard to find, communal bucket baths are the norm in the Janta Colony. In many cases, older siblings (even slightly older) are responsible for the hygeine of their younger brothers and sisters. But there comes a time in every boy's life when getting caught with his pants down is more than a little uncomfortable.

On a hot dry day, even a self-inflicted blast of cold water to the head can be sheer delight!

A river runs through

Lack of infrastructure is a key issue in the Bustee; aside from the local municipal council, no city or province recognizes its responsibility to provide basic services and the minimal drainage systems that exist are consistently blocked. As a result, navigating the rivers and lakes of open water and waste (including human and animal waste) is just part of daily life.

Pigs

Like cows, pigs roam the streets of the Bustee with little to stand in their way. But they also nose around its garbage pits and wallow in its nullahs. The potential for human-porcine contact is particularly dangerous for children. Many of the pigs carry on their backs a parasite that can weasel its way into the human brain and cause severe damage.
